Launch Your Practice is a 90-minute workshop designed for new principal lawyers and practitioners starting their own legal practice, or those transitioning to principal status within the last three years.

There is a lot to starting a new law practice. You need to build systems, manage clients, ensure compliance, and reduce professional negligence risk, all while delivering quality legal work. Launch Your Practice helps you get the foundations right from the start.

In this practical workshop, you'll discover the essential systems, processes, and practices that allow new principals and law firms to operate effectively and safely. Whether you're a sole practitioner or leading a team, you'll learn what matters most in the critical early stages of practice development.

Duration: 90 minutes 

CPD: 1.5 points (Practice Management)

Format: Online and in-person (alternating dates)

Frequency: Multiple sessions throughout the year

• Defining your practice – clearly identifying what work you will (and won't) do, who your ideal clients are, and how you'll price and deliver services

• Building foundational systems – establishing practice management software, essential precedents, and core processes from day one

• Work intake and risk – applying proven tools to ensure you take on the right client, matter, and work at the right time

• Compliance essentials – understanding regulatory obligations and how to build compliance into your systems, not bolt it on later

• Cybersecurity foundations – protecting your firm and clients' information with essential security practices

• Your people and culture – establishing hiring practices, induction, and supervision that set the tone for your firm
