Description

Lead with resilience is designed for experienced principal lawyers, senior practice leaders, and practitioners concerned about building genuine risk management resilience in their firm. Leadership in legal practice involves managing complexity while maintaining professional integrity and sustainable practice. Lead With Resilience provides frameworks and strategies for building organisational resilience that allows your firm to identify risks early, respond effectively and learn from experience.

Many firms have policies and compliance tick-boxes, but this isn't the same as building resilience. Resilience means your firm actively anticipates risks, your team is empowered to speak up about problems, you learn from incidents rather than moving on, and your leadership culture embeds risk consciousness throughout the organisation. This workshop is for leaders ready to move from compliance to proactive risk management.

Delivery format

Duration: 120 minutes

CPS: 2 points (Practice Management)

Format: In-person

Frequency: Multiple sessions throughout the year

What You'll Take Away

Through case studies of firms that have managed crises well, reflection exercises on your own leadership, peer dialogue with experienced principals, and practical assessment tools, you'll clarify your risk leadership priorities and plan concrete changes.

The workshop covers:

  • Risk resilience assessment - evaluating your firm's current risk resilience across governance, people, processes, technology, compliance and culture

  • The contemporary risk environment - understanding emerging risks affecting legal practice

  • Building risk-aware culture - the difference between "compliance checkbox" culture and integrated risk consciousness; creating psychological safety so team members speak up

  • Governance for resilience - decision-making structures, accountability frameworks, policy reviews cycles and stakeholder communication that support risk management

  • Cyber resilience deep dive - going beyond minimum standards to build readiness to detect, respond, and recover from incidents; money transfer protocols; team awareness

  • AI and emerging technology governance - establishing frameworks for what AI tools can and cannot be used, how to verify AI output, and managing privacy and bias risks

  • Measuring and learning from risk - data-driven risk management using file audits, incident analysis, complaint trends, and financial metrics to improve continuously

  • Your leadership role - how principals set the tone for risk consciousness, model behaviour, have difficult conversations about errors, and build sustainable leadership
